"Knowledge", "Skills" and "Attitudes" are the three primary elements for the balanced development of children. At Discovery Mind Kindergarten, children will not only learn about basic skills and concepts, but also about developing positive values and attitudes within the learning environment and beyond. With our all-round teaching programme for children in intellectual, physical, social, ethical and aesthetic aspects, they will be well prepared for their transition into local primary schools or international schools.
Children will develop their skills in expressing themselves. Our native, qualified and experienced teachers help children to enrich their everyday vocabulary through stories, listening, conversation, and sharing of experiences in everyday life in both English and Putonghua. Children will learn to speak politely, clearly and fluently using the acquired vocabulary. By encouraging children to ask and answer questions, they will learn to make simple inferences, solve problems and predict the outcomes.
At the same time, our one to one reading sessions cater for each child's individual needs. Each child will receive sounds, word boxes and reading books at their own level.
We will organize activities, hands-on experiments and play for children to learn the basic mathematical concepts such as counting, ordering, sequencing, sorting, comparing, etc. They will also learn to identify the properties of objects in terms of colour, size, weight and shape, etc., together with a basic concept of space and time. These activities and observations will help children develop their thinking and problem-solving ability for analysis and discussion/interaction.
Children are curious about the environment. We will help cultivate their interest in exploring the physical world with objectivity and openness. They will learn about basic exploration techniques such as observation, questioning, making predictions and problem solving. With an awareness of the relationship between humans and nature as well as technology and living, children will learn to care for themselves, others, animals, plants and the environment.
This area provides children with the basis of creative development through appreciation of the beauty of nature and art. Children will come to enjoy the fun of different creative activities using a variety of media and materials. Through music, drama, dance and visual arts, children will be encouraged to develop their senses and bodies.
We help children develop a healthy life-style by cultivating good habits through participation in physical activities; personal and public hygiene, and safety, thus building the ability of self-care.
We teach children to know about themselves and appreciate their uniqueness in order to build up their self-confidence and sense of responsibility. Children will learn to communicate and interact with people in a culturally responsible manner. They will be able to expand their social circle and cultivate civic awareness with an understanding of the social environment.
